Both myself and Danny Zane attended a consultation on behalf of the AIIC run by NARLS earlier this year. The housing minister’s secretary was also present to listen and note the views of all who attended. We represented our members and our sector and explained that inventory and check out fees should not included within the ban. I feel that our fees will now be pushed onto landlords which will in turn push up rents. There is also the risk that some landlords will not instruct an inventory in an attempt to save costs. This however is a very short term solution. if they loose money in damages this would outweigh the cost of our reports. I am sure you have all seen our recent mail with the link to our online petition to make independent inventory reporting a compulsory part of the letting process and in light of the above we really need to join together to get as many signatures as we can. Please forward the link to as many people as possible so we can bring this issue to parliament and make some changes.
