I’m saddened to read this but at the same time relieved it wasn’t just me thinking of resigning my membership. I get nothing out of this organisation now sadly. I used to get a fair amount of work referrals through the website, industry updates and the opportunity to attend the AGM and network. Not it’s all vanished. The only communication is the annual fee reminder. I hope you can get your problems solved but in the meantime there seem to be other better run industry bodies which give us vale for money which is where I will be looking to go…..

Like Matthew I am lucky to be able to fit property inspections around my other work. I am lucky in that the agent I work for is really good and will generally following up the important things. They will book a number in a day and I will take a bunch of keys with me as not everyone is present. Sometimes I’ve found dogs in the house, cash left on the side, unmade beds etc so yes it can feel intrusive….I much prefer the tenants to be there and generally if they are working in a particular room (so many people work from home now), I don’t photograph that room. It’s also amazing the amount of people who are in bed asleep during the day (and they’re not doing shift work!). Likewise I stay out of these rooms. Provided the remuneration is right, I personally feel these are more profitable than inventories, based on the time you spend on them.
        Best wishes

I actually charge an amount per page of the inventory, on the basis that some rooms can take forever, whilst others (bedrooms) can be quite quick. This works for me and generally reflects the amount of time I have put into the job

After nearly 8 weeks of very little work, I see the world is waking up and I now have a couple of jobs booked in London for next week. Can anyone pls tell me if AIIC have issued any official guidance for us which I can share with my client? One useful tip I’ve read is to ensure that the property is very well ventilated with all windows opened when conducting a checkout……..
